High Desert Montessori School has achieved a lot of success since it was started in 1992. On May 30, 2017, the school witnessed yet another historic event. For the first time, the school became the first institution in Washoe County to have a greenhouse. The greenhouse was donated Reno-based entrepreneur Josh Smith’s company Modular Greenhouses.
The new greenhouse will enable students to learn how to grow a variety of food crops. They will also learn how to apply agricultural knowledge and skills to improve their own health and general well-being. In a one-hour presentation, Josh Smith, the chief executive officer of Modular Greenhouses, said that his company is looking forward to training students to be leaders in campaigning for healthy eating and living in Reno, Nevada. He revealed the company’s program to donate greenhouses to every school and nonprofit organization in the county. He showed optimism that one day the food crops grown by the students will serve tens of restaurants and homes in Reno.
