Spotlight On Heiligenstein and the MoPac Project

In September of 2015, an American-statesman predicted an increase in the traffic congestion within Austin. He went further and argued that the community needed a tech solution in order to solve this issue. Mike Heiligenstein, while responding to the remarks by the American-Statesman, thanked him for identifying the issue and stated that the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) was addressing the issues.

What is CTRMA Doing?

CTRMA is building a number of mobility solutions like roads and others at different times. The CTRMA was involved in the development of 183A Toll road found in Leander and Cedar Park, which has brought a lot of transformations to the communities around like exponential growth. They also constructed the U.S. 290 toll road that runs between Manor and Austin. This particular road has managed to triple the previous capacity handled and also improved the other previously existing non-toll lanes.Learn more : http://www.dot.state.tx.us/ttf2009/People/MikeHeiligenstein.htm

CTRMA’s mission is innovation and this is evident in the MoPac project it is currently engaged in. the project will have changeable tolling that will utilize sophisticated technology in managing traffic flow. Although it will not eradicate traffic congestion completely, it will offer a reliable commute to people looking to get to either an interview or concert real quick. The mobility authority aims at ensuring that the express lane moves smoothly when the other lanes will be crawling especially during the rush hour.Learn more : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfCSQct7ihI

Other Key Steps CTRMA has Taken to Ensure Smooth Traffic Flow

Heiligenstein pointed that the mobility authority is considering the development of smart roads. It is also working with Carma, a carpooling app to encourage commuters to share their rides. It ensures that motorists whose vehicles experience breakdowns on the road are offered free assistance fast. Heiligenstein concedes that the mobility authority does not have all the solutions but it is working on maximizing the ones it has at the moment.

About CTRMA

CTRMA is a local and responsible agency that was created by the people from Williamson and Travis counties. The authority is charged with coming up with great innovations that will help ease the traffic congestion experienced in these counties. It partners with its partner agencies, local counties and cities in meeting the various needs that the community of Central Texas needs.
